Marion County Senior Citizens, Inc., is seeking a dedicated direct care worker to join our team. This person will perform personal care services as established by the individual plan of care designed to assist at-risk individuals and senior clients in remaining in their homes. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, dependable, and committed to promoting the well-being of our senior citizens. Training, monitoring, and technical assistance will be provided so the worker can carry out the job responsibilities.

Typical Work Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm
Reports to: Charge Nurse
Minimum Requirements:
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must pass the background check through WV Cares
Must have (or be able to obtain) CPR and first aid certification
Job requires:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Compassionate and patient demeanor, especially when interacting with senior citizens.
Ability to work independently and responsibly manage time.
Possession of a valid WV driver's license (and clean driving record) if serving clients participating in the Aged and Disabled Waiver program.
A food handling certificate is preferred.
Work Environment:
Setting: Direct care workers typically work in clients' homes.
Physical Demands: The job often requires extensive standing, walking, and lifting. Workers may need to assist clients with mobility, including transferring them from beds or wheelchairs and helping with physical exercises. Workers often may lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
Conditions: Workers may be exposed to various conditions, including slippery floors, chemicals, sharp objects, hazardous materials, second-hand smoke, pets, and communicable diseases. They must follow safety protocols to minimize risks.
Schedule: Shifts may vary, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on the client's needs.
Dress Code: Scrub uniforms are required. All uniforms must be clean and neat. Shoes must be closed-toe and neat and clean (preferably tennis or nursing shoes). Hair must be neat and clean and pulled back securely. All employees must wear suitable undergarments that are clean, properly fitting, and not visible through outer clothing while performing their duties. All employees are required to wear (and use) appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Personal Assistance for clients, including:
Dressing
Grooming – including care of hair, shaving, ordinary care of nails, teeth and mouth, routine skincare
Transferring and repositioning from bed to chair or wheelchair
Prompting of self-administration of medication and tracking daily vital signs
Bathing the participant in the bed, tub, or shower
Toileting, which includes assistance with the bedpan, commode, or toilet
Assist with walking
Feeding and meal preparation
Assisting with other routine bodily functions such as incontinence care, routine menstrual care, and other non-medical personal care
Care of, or assistance with, prosthetic, adaptive, or similar devices and equipment
Chore/Housekeeping including:
Making and changing beds
Dusting and vacuuming
Light cleaning of the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, etc.
Dishwashing
Laundry
Removing walkway hazards
Shopping/Errands (Aged and Disabled Waiver program only):
Tracking needed supplies/groceries
Shopping and performing other essential errands
Picking up prescriptions from doctor’s office or pharmacy
Transportation as specified in the client's care plan
Other Duties:
Follow the care plan and chart activities daily
Maintain timesheets and mileage, turning in all required paperwork on time
Work with transportation professionals to ensure that patients who require additional assistance getting in and out of vehicles can safely use transportation.
Notify the supervisor as soon as possible in the event of an absence
Notify client as soon as possible in the event of an absence
Timely report changes in the client’s condition to the supervisor and documentation of the same
Attend all training as assigned
Perform other duties assigned
The position may include substituting for other clients or assisting with kitchen or office administration duties.
