As the May 12, 2026, Primary Election approaches, Marion County residents have multiple convenient options to cast their ballots—whether voting early, voting on Election Day, or voting absentee. Below is everything you need to know to participate confidently and securely.
📨 How to Vote Absentee in Marion County
Residents who qualify to vote absentee can follow these simple steps to ensure their ballot is requested, completed, and returned on time.
1. Request an Absentee Ballot Application
Contact the Marion County Clerk’s Office either by phone or in person to request an absentee ballot application.
2. Complete and Return the Application
Once you receive your application, complete it fully, then sign and date it. Return the completed application to the Marion County Clerk’s Office.
3. Absentee Ballot Request Window
Requests for absentee ballots are already open and will continue through Wednesday, May 6, 2026. Ballots are issued in the order requests are received.
4. Returning Your Completed Absentee Ballot
You may return your ballot in one of two ways:
- By Mail: Use the envelope included in your absentee ballot package. Your ballot must be postmarked by Election Day (May 12, 2026).
- In Person: Deliver your completed ballot to the Marion County Clerk’s Office at the Courthouse no later than the day BEFORE Election Day.
⚠️ Important Note About Switching to In‑Person Voting
If you request and receive an absentee ballot but later decide to vote in person, you must return the unmarked absentee ballot to the County Clerk’s Office.
If you do not return it, your in‑person vote will be provisional, meaning it may or may not be included in the official results.
